This was my first time witnessing a large animal kill in Yellowstone. Bears will flush elk calves from their hiding spots and take them down during the spring calving season. This was interesting to witness, however, as the mother was hanging back and letting her cubs (which were consuming the calf alive) learn how to handle prey. A teaching moment.
